Exploring Recreation and Nature in Hesperia

The Hesperia Recreation and Park District (HRPD) is a public agency that provides parks and recreation facilities to the residents within its sphere of influence, including the City of Hesperia and portions of the unincorporated area of Oak Hills, Summit Valley and Phelan. The District encompasses approximately 100 square miles and maintains parks, facilities, landscape maintenance districts and street lights. Community activities are also provided by the District, such as aquatics, camps and classes, dance, music, health and fitness, and sports programs. Funding for the District comes from property taxes, grants, developer dedication or in-lieu fees, lighting and landscape assessment districts and community facility districts.

The City of Hesperia had an estimated 2016 population of over 93,000 and the unincorporated areas within District boundaries have a combined estimated population of over 23,000. The District partners with the Hesperia Area Recreation District (HARD), which is a non-profit organization.

HRPD Master Plan 2019

Over the last year, the Hesperia Recreation and Park District conducted a Comprehensive Master Plan update. We heard from residents, business owners, special interest groups and other interested parties.

The Comprehensive Master Plan update considered the existing parks, recreational facilities, programs and services, and determined the current and future level of services for the community based on public input.

If you participated in our Online Survey, mailed Need Assessment Survey or Special Interest Group meetings, THANK YOU!

The Hesperia Recreation and Park District hired GreenPlay, LLC, a nationally-known parks and recreation management consulting firm to oversee the plan. If you have any questions regarding the Master Plan, please contact Michael Varner, Administrative Operations Manager – Parks, at (760) 244-5488 or mvarner@hesperiaparks.com.
