Monthly Onsite Classes and DIY Instruction:

Mining Supplies and Rock Shop provides classes and instruction on various jewelry making and artisan techniques.  Classes are taught on location in their workshop.  

Please contact them via phone, email, or in person during regular business hours.  Advance payment for classes is required.  Space is limited and customers are taken on a first-come, first- served basis.

PUBLIC GUIDED FIELD TRIPS - Per Person: $10.00 in store: $11.00 online; $20.00 at the site, day of the trip

Those paying in advance will receive an email explaining where the gathering site is, what time to meet, what we will be finding, what to bring, approximate times, etc. You are welcome to join up with others at the site who may have 4-wheel drive.

Sunday April 28th, 2019 North Cady Mountains  
We will be exploring the less hiked areas of the South Cady Mountains.  We will explore some of the deeper canyons and hills on the north facing side of the Sleeping Beauty Range.  This trip will have a longer drive than most and some hiking, but the payoff in great new materials can make the trip well worth the effort.  A Four-Wheel Drive vehicle is a MUST.

 

CABOCHON MAKING – $45.00

Learn to make your own cabochons. In this class you will learn how to make a cabochon from start to finish from a rock slab. Please wear clothing that you don’t mind getting wet or dirty. Please wear closed toed shoes.  Class fee of $45.00 includes material to make one or two cabochons and everything you will need. You may  purchase additional material from the Rock Shop. Class duration will be approximately 3 hours. No experience needed.  Please sign up in advance.

SOAPSTONE CARVING – $45.00 ***NEW CLASS OFFERING***

Learn how to carve soapstone.  Each student will be provided with a roughly cut out soapstone bear.  Using hand tools and sandpaper, we will each carve and finish one bear. The tools you’ll need will be provided for use in the class.  Additional materials (if desired) will be available for purchase.  Class duration will be approximately 5 hours.  Please wear closed toed shoes. Class size is limited to 6 students so please sign up in advance.

SILVERSMITHING A – $65.00

Join us to learn basic silversmithing skills as we make a ring (or two depending on your pace). Skills we will be learning include ring sizing, using a jeweler’s saw, filing, soldering, stamping, and polishing. We will first make a simple band ring, and if time permits, a second ring with a different design.  Materials for the first ring are included in the class fee of $65.00.  Additional materials (if desired) will be available for purchase. The tools you’ll need will be provided for use in the class. Class duration will be approximately 3 hours.  Please wear closed toed shoes. Class size is limited to 4 students so please sign up in advance.

SILVERSMITHING B – $70.00

Build on your skills and learn to bezel set a cabochon for a pendant.  We will use many of the same skills that we learned in the A level class, but this time we will also learn how to choose appropriate bezel material, how to fabricate the setting, and build on your soldering skills.  Material (silver and cabochon) for one pendant will be included in the class fee of $70.00.  Prerequisite – Beginning Silversmithing A or some silversmithing experience. Class duration will be approximately 5 hours and may go longer.  Please wear closed toed shoes. Class size is limited to 4 students so please sign up in advance.

SILVERSMITHING C – PROJECT LOOP-IN-LOOP BRACELET – $75.00

In this class you will learn how to make jump rings and modify them to create a sterling silver charm bracelet.  You will be able to embellish your bracelet with a small bezel set cabochon, pierced (jeweler’s saw) design, and /or bead.  All material needed to make the basic bracelet (jump ring, solder, flux, clasp) are included in the class fee. Materials to embellish the bracelet may be purchased from the instructors, Rock Shop  or you may bring your own materials. The fee includes the use of tools during the class.  Prerequisite – Silversmithing A and B. Class duration will be approximately 5 hours and may go longer or shorter.  Please wear closed toed shoes. Class size is limited to 4 students so please sign up in advance.

WIRE WRAPPING – $45.00

Learn to wire wrap a cabochon to wear as a ring, bracelet or pendant. The class fee is $45.00 and an additional fee of approximately $15.00 is charged for supplies needed. Class duration will be approximately 3 hours. No experience needed. Class size is limited to 5 students so please sign up in advance.

Classes are offered on the first Saturday of each month from 9:00am-12:00pm.

CHAINMAILLE – $60.00 ***NEW CLASS OFFERING***

Learn to create a bracelet by linking jump rings together in specific patterns. This is known as chainmaille. The class fee is $60.00 and includes a kit of jump rings to make one bracelet. Additional supplies may be purchased.  Class duration will be approximately 3 hours.

Classes are offered on the first Saturday of each month from 1:00am-4:00pm.

JADE CARVING – $60.00

Learn to carve a piece of jade by making a pendant you can wear home! The class fee will be $60.00 and includes every tool necessary and a piece of jade to create with in class.  All students will be asked to have a leaf shape in mind to carve.  The basic 4-hour class includes design, tool overview, cutting, grinding, sanding and polishing.  Additional supplies can be purchased as needed. This is a beginner class and students need no prior carving experience. Please wear closed toed shoes. Class size is limited to 5 students so please sign up in advance.

WIRE WEAVING – $45.00

Learn to wire weave a cabochon. The class fee is $45.00. Students will need to bring a cabochon to work with. Cabochons and additional supplies can be purchased from the Rock Shop if needed. Class duration will be approximately 4 hours with a short break. No experience needed.
