Exploring the Literature of the California Desert

Please join us for a FREE 90-minute presentation by esteemed Mojave Desert-based author Ruth Nolan, who grew up in Apple Valley. Nolan is a Professor of English and Creative Writing at College of the Desert in Palm Desert, where she has taught for 20 years.
Her lecture will include slides and a Q&A that will touch upon many of the 80 authors in her anthology No Place for a Puritan: The Literature of California’s Deserts and explore other writings about the California desert, including selections focusing on the Victor Valley.
This project was made possible with support from California Humanities, a non-profit partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Visit
